So, here we are in the midst of what had been a tough but professional campaign battle, when things turn juvenile.
I received a call from a friend who had posted one of my 8-foot signs on her fence along Bangerter Highway. It appears the 8-foot sign, complete with my head shot, has been STOLEN!
We might blame the disappearance of the sign on the wind, but at 8-feet, if the sign had somehow managed to blow off the fence (despite multiple anchors to keep it from doing so), it would have probably caused an accident on the highway.
While signs are expected to disappear during any campaign, this is a rather large sign (did I mention it is 8-feet long?). It is difficult to imagine how someone managed to tear it down and what on earth he or she will do with it now.
As for me, I thought about contacting UDOT to see if any of the cameras on Bangerter picked up the culprits, but there are better uses of both UDOT's and my time.
However, if you happen to see someone with a giant white and purple Jean Welch Hill sign in his or her living room, please let us know!

Jean,
Welcome to political campaigns! I've worked many tireless hours replacing signs along the highways of Utah, among them Bangerter. You will find that UDOT will scrape signs quite often during the campaign season requiring you to replace them.
In previous years you could pick them up at a central location before they give them the final chuck.
Please try and enjoy your campaign and not take it too personal. It happens to both candidates.
How many times are we going to hear about candidates' signs disappearing?
Well, I think you are going to hear about it until Election Day. Again, this is politics and rabid campaigners on each side pull some nasty stunts. But it isn't always partisans that remove signs.
You know, there is a saying I've always found humorous, "The day that some one shows me the rule book on politics, I'll be glad to follow it!".
In the meantime, keep printing those signs as more are sure to be lost in the battle.
You might want to contact UDOT. They have rules for signs visible on state roads. It may have been UDOT who took your sign.
I did it! I took it to patch the hole in my roof! But for some reason this blog won't let me post the truth.
Anyone check Shurtleff's office?
Tom:
Thanks for the post--and it appears UDOT is working overtime since my 8 footer at UEA is also gone, though all other candidate signs remain, as well as the sign at the Redwood Road Union Center--while all other remain. Conspiracy theorists want a stab at this? Ralph--how many holes do you have in your roof? Can't you use some Chaffetz signs?
